River Severn

The small Powys ward of Caersws is a village and community in Mid Wales. Adjacent to the River Severn at its confluence with Afon Carno, Caersws is located four miles west of Newtown, Powys and halfway between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury (grid reference SO032918). The Caersws ward includes the local villages of Llanwnog, Pontdolgoch and Clatter.

The name Caersws means 'Fort of Sws', 'Caer' meaning fort, and 'Swsan' (sometimes 'Swswen') being an ancient Roman queen. The village is the location of two Roman forts of Roman Wales.

Caersws Community Council consists of twelve volunteer members from all parts of the Ward. The members meetings are held monthly on a Wednesday evening where local issues from highway maintenance to celebratory events are discussed; discussions also include planning applications and issues relating to planning.
