Over recent months residents may have noticed a number of improvements around Bridge Street which have helped improve the safety of residents and pedestrians passing through the village.

Pavement Improvements near the Premier Shop
Work was recently undertaken to resurface the pavement near the Premier Shop on Bridge Street. During these works the road was under temporary traffic light control for approximately three weeks between October and November, which many residents will remember as traffic was reduced to a single lane while the works were carried out.
While the traffic management did cause some delays at the time, the completed works have significantly improved the condition of the pavement and made this important pedestrian route through this busy part of the village safer and easier to use.
The owners of the Premier Shop also carried out their own improvements which have helped widen and tidy the pedestrian route.

These works included:
- Relocating a power pole with Scottish Power Energy Network
- Installing a new boundary fence
- Creating a clearer and safer walkway for pedestrians
As part of the resurfacing works, road signage was repositioned alongside the new fence line, which further helps keep the footway clear and maximises space for pedestrians.
The Community Council would like to recognise the cooperation of the shop owners in supporting improvements that benefit the wider community.
Additional funding provided to the North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA) enabled further resurfacing works along the A470 through Caersws.
This work included resurfacing:
- From Caersws Bridge to Trefeglwys Road
- From Caersws Bridge towards Manthrig Lane
These works have significantly improved the road surface through the village and enhanced the overall condition of this important route.
The North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent has already carried out similar pavement improvements in Llangurig, has now completed works in Caersws, and is currently progressing works in Llandinam.
It’s also helpful to understand who is responsible for different roads in our community:
- · The North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent manages trunk roads like the A470

- · Powys County Council Highways team manages all other local roads

Looking Ahead
The bridge area remains one of the busiest pedestrian crossing points in the community, and the Community Council continues to explore longer-term solutions that could further improve pedestrian safety at this.
